Waste Water Heat Recovery for Showers
New Video – Recoup HeatDeck Easy retrofit replacement of existing shower tray
This video shows how the Recoup HeatDeck Waste Water Heat Recovery for Showers (WWHRS) shower tray can easily be retrofitted to replace an existing shower tray in a bathroom or shower room. This provides the energy saving benefits of Waste Water Heat Recovery for Showers to an existing space with minimal disruption, lowering property carbon emissions & reducing bills.
Retrofit Energy Saving with Recoup HeatDeck
The Recoup HeatDeck is a Waste Water Heat Recovery System (WWHRS) for showers. Built with Mira Flight shower tray technology incorporating a copper heat exchanger. Warm shower water that has only lost a few degrees of temperature runs through the Recoup HeatDeck. The heat exchanger transfers heat energy from the warm shower water to incoming cold mains water preheating it. This preheated water reaches around 25°C and is sent to the cold side of the shower and/or water heater in the property. This provision of water at an increased temperature reduces the demand for hot water at the shower, meaning less energy is needed to produce hot water, which.
Installing or retrofitting a Recoup HeatDeck to a shower can save between 30% and 40% of the energy per shower use. The amount of energy and carbon saved is very dependent upon the installation situation, flow rate, and the water heater fuel type for the property. It is possible to calculate the values for differing situations.
This is a passive technology and works for every shower taken on the Recoup HeatDeck. The shower must incorporate a thermostatic mixing valve (TMV) and installation does not require the shower to be changed unless it is an electric shower. Electric showers can be unsafe to use with Waste Water Heat Recovery Systems unless the flow and temperature is actively controlled, the Mira Showers Heatloop electric shower range is currently the only electric shower available that does this.
There are currently two tray size options for the Recoup HeatDeck. Standard white gloss or Mira Flight Safe anti-slip finish options are available. Both comprise BioCote® technology providing up to 99.9% reduced bacteria & mould growth.
There is no change of use or end user interaction once the Recoup HeatDeck is installed, users shower the same, the showering experience is the same, they just save energy having WWHRS installed into it. Installation is very easy and retrofitting into existing showers and bathrooms with the same size shower tray can be completed with minimal disruption. No specialist installation training is required. The cold water flow to the shower just needs to be diverted through the Recoup HeatDeck heat exchanger.
With the carbon and energy use of existing housing stock a significant concern as countries and governments attempt to reduce demand and consumption, the Recoup HeatDeck provides a reduction solution by conserving the energy that is generated for hot water in showering.
