Pipe HEX 18 Bar Pressure Test & Continued Improvements

Jan 26, 2026 | Installation, Product News, Technical & Installation Update

During the end of 2025 allowing an 18 Bar Pressure Test and a number of other continued improvements were made to the Recoup Pipe HEX to make installation even simpler. Below each of the improvements are detailed, all are also covered in the most recent version of our Recoup Pipe HEX installation video and Installation Instructions.

18 Bar Pressure Test

You can now pressure test the system and Recoup Pipe HEX up to a maximum of 18 bar without isolation. If the system testing is to proceed above 18 bar then the Recoup Pipe HEX should be isolated. Older Pipe HEX products in non-printed boxes can only be pressure tested to 10 bar before isolation is required.

Box Template

A fixing position template has been printed onto the inside edge of the box. This template can be removed and used to positon the fixing points for the mounting brackets.

Speedfit connectors

Speedfit ½” Male BSP connectors are supplied in the installaiton kit box for cold and preheated water connections. These can be hand tightened into the Pipe HEX (maximum of 3Nm).  Only 15mm copper pipe should be used into the Speedfit ½” Male BSP connectors supplied.

Solvent weld cap

The cap for the top of the Turbo Rotator on the Recoup Pipe HEX vertical waste water heat recovery system has changed. Previously there was a push fit cap with O-ring which has been changed to a solvent weld Turbo Rotator cap.

The Turbo Rotator can still be positioned with either of the two 50mm connectors pushed into the top of the Recoup Pipe HEX. Only one O-ring will now be supplied and may need to be moved to the opposite side to connect into the Pipe HEX. Once in position the cap can be glued to the top of the Turbo Rotator with solvent adhesive. This video shows the new cap and repositioning the O-ring.

Double check valve no longer required

Together, we have reviewed the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 along with the guidance available from Water Regs UK Ltd and have concluded that a Double walled WWHRS does not require a check valve to be fitted.  Read more here.

Preheated pipework insulation no longer required

Recoup are no longer advising that preheated pipework from the Recoup WWHRS (Waste Water Heat Recovery for Showers) unit must be insulated. There is currently no specific Building Regulation guidance (in England) to state that it is mandatory that the preheated pipework should, or should not, be insulated. Read more here.
